‘’Runshaw’s Medical Society has given me a realistic insight on the skills and attributes needed to be a future doctor” – Paige Robins, Runshaw student
Paige is just one of many of our students who have had the opportunity to be part of Runshaw’s Medical Society – perfect for any student wishing to pursue a career in Medicine, Vet Science or Dentistry. Competition for university places on these courses is high but thanks to our sector leading programme, devised in collaboration with the NHS and Universities, it is a superb way to begin your Medical, Dental and Veterinary career.

We recently caught up with Camilla – our Medical Society Course Leader – during a typical week of activities specifically aimed at students interested in pursuing a career in medicine.

During the last week of term students welcomed Nicola Wolstenholme, a clinical scientist, as a guest speaker for a special session attended by 100 Medical Society students. Nicola delivered an engaging presentation on the advancements and implications of genetic testing in modern healthcare. She highlighted how genetic testing is transforming the diagnosis and treatment of hereditary diseases, paving the way for more personalised medicine. Students gained valuable insights into the ethical and practical considerations of genetic technologies. The session provided an inspiring glimpse into future healthcare innovations, leaving students motivated to explore careers in medical science and its rapidly evolving fields.

The course consists of two lessons a week that provides full insight into a career within these fields, including the use of AI, communication skills, problem based learning and basic medical techniques, alongside additional qualifications including a first aid qualification, an introduction to British Sign Language and an opportunity to take part in a research project.
