Students on the Foundation Diploma in Art & Design (FAD) course have now chosen their content from three different research trips for their Final Major Projects.
Over the last few days our students have been out visiting art galleries, a sculpture park and museum collections in Liverpool, Manchester and Wakefield in Yorkshire. Most of our FAD students also organised independent study visits for the recent staff training day with some going as far afield as Dublin, London, Glasgow and Nottingham to gather primary research.

On all of our UAL courses in the School of Visual Arts, our students plan and write their individual final projects based on their own choice of subject matter. Their research visits have a significant impact on the quality and depth of their ideas, imagery and concepts they go on to explore. For our FAD students, being able to choose from a range of visits to support their studies has given them the opportunity to tailor their studies to suit their individual needs. It’s an exciting time of year in the School of Visual Arts as all our students are able to showcase the skills they have been building all year in their final projects. We can’t wait to see what they create!

The UAL Foundation Diploma in Art & Design is an intensive one year course which students complete after their A Level or L3 Vocational studies before progressing onto a degree – effectively a third year at college. It is primarily designed to bridge the gap between Sixth Form and University studies, supporting progression to a subject specialist art and design programme at Art College, or to an Honours Degree at University.
