Former Runshaw students win ‘Best North West Filmmaker’ with their film ‘Connect 4’
We are thrilled to hear that former students Matt Green and Marcus Johnson, who together run the video and film production company Glacé Media, have won the ‘Best North West Filmmaker’ award at the BIFA-accredited Wigan & Leigh Short Film Festival.
Connect 4 is a locally shot short comedy/drama. The film’s sense of humour is grounded firmly in that of the North West of England, inspired by such comedies as Phoenix Nights and Dinnerladies. The wacky plot and filmmaking style is influenced by one of Matt’s directing idols, Edgar Wright.
The film was written and directed by Matt and produced by Marcus. Shot across Bolton and Wigan, the film went on to have a successful film festival run which ultimately led to them winning this prestigious award.
Matt and Marcus left Runshaw in 2012 with Matt studying A Levels in Drama, Media and Music Technology and Marcus studying A Levels in History, English Literature and Business Studies. They later went on to establish Glacé Media in 2017 and have worked with a variety of high-end commercial clients such as Müller, Papa John’s and Alzheimer’s Society to produce promotional video content. As well as their commercial video work, Matt and Marcus produce their own original productions, mainly short films.
Congratulations to both Matt and Marcus on this amazing achievement, we can’t wait to check in with them as we follow the duo’s latest film project titled “#FØLGMEG”, a dark Norwegian comedy, due to be completed in the coming months.
