Our aspiring Engineering and Veterinary students have recently enjoyed an enriching and informative day at Lancashire Farm Education Centre.
During the visit, our Biology students observed the operation of a robotic milking system and explored the valuable data it provides to veterinarians. They had the opportunity to interact with the cows and calves and even observed the bull demonstrating natural breeding behaviours.

Our students also participated in soil testing activities, gaining insight into how optimal grass growth can support dairy farming. Elaine, our host and educator for the day, delivered exceptional teaching, and the farm’s adherence to health and safety was exemplary.

Our T Level Design Engineering students learned all about Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacture within the Food Chain and got up close with the automated milking machine. They were given lots of Engineering tasks and challenges throughout the day.

This was a fantastic opportunity – our students gained a deeper understanding of dairy farming, as well as the wide range of career opportunities connected to the agricultural sector. We look forward to working closely with the Lancashire Farm Education Centre in the very near future. The centre, based in Croston, offers visits for schools, colleges and universities, with activities developed around the National Curriculum.
