Financial Incentives in the FE Sector

As part of the UK Government’s initiative to address teacher shortages in critical subject areas, various bursaries are available for individuals aspiring to enter the Further Education (FE) teaching profession, including Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) and Early Career Teachers.

The importance of these bursaries cannot be overstated. They not only make the teaching profession more accessible to a diverse range of candidates but also help to address shortages in critical subject areas. By offering financial incentives, the government can encourage more graduates to consider teaching as a viable and rewarding career option.

With several bursaries on offer each provide essential financial support. They range from aiding professionals entering the field, to incentives that help colleges retain talent. These bursaries play a crucial role in retaining talented educators, thereby maintaining high standards of education within the organisation and the wider FE sector.

The level of financial support offered depends on the subject area chosen, the route taken, and can sometimes vary depending on the organisation you teach at or the hours you are contracted to teach.

Financial incentives are also part of broader efforts to reduce educational inequalities across the UK. “Levelling Up” premium payments (now titled Targeted Retention Payment) are designed in part to support teachers in disadvantaged areas, helping to improve educational outcomes for students in those regions.
