What led you to join Runshaw College?
“Before joining Runshaw in 2021, I’d had a varied career. I initially worked in health and social care, managing a chain of residential care homes for adults with learning and physical disabilities. In 2009, I retrained as a teaching assistant, delivering Maths, English, and SEN interventions in mainstream schools. While I loved working in education, I was ready for a new challenge—one that would allow me to support students in a different way. When I saw the opportunity to join the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) at Runshaw, it felt like the perfect fit”.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
“One of the most rewarding parts of my job is working 1-to-1 with students and running study skills workshops. Helping students build their confidence and achieve their potential is incredibly fulfilling. I also enjoy visiting classes to promote the LRC’s services, ensuring students know about all the fantastic resources available to them. Beyond that, I love being part of the LRC Promotions Team, where I get to engage with students through fun activities and events. It’s a great way to make learning more interactive and accessible”.

How has Runshaw supported your career growth?
“Runshaw has been incredibly supportive of my professional development. I’ve had the opportunity to complete my Level 3 Teaching and Learning qualification, which has opened doors for me to take on new challenges. I’ve also attended guest speaker sessions for VESPA, which have been really insightful”.
What is the work environment like at Runshaw?
“The LRC team is amazing! Everyone is supportive, collaborative, and always willing to help. We work together to create the best possible learning experience for students, and there’s a real sense of teamwork. We even recently enjoyed a team-building day at the Manchester Christmas Markets, which was a fantastic way to bond outside of work”.
What do you love most about working at Runshaw?
“There are so many things! The work-life balance is fantastic, the campus is beautiful with its greenery and open spaces, and there are always opportunities to take on different roles within the college. Most of all, I love being part of a team that truly cares about supporting students. If you’re looking for a workplace where you can make a real impact, feel valued, and be part of a fantastic team, Runshaw is the perfect place!”
