This week our A Level Textiles students have gained insights into the world of Sustainable Stitching and volunteering opportunities within the Textile industry.
Andrea Westall, Participation Co-ordinator for British Textile Biennial, visited our A Level students to discuss sustainability in the fashion industry and to show students how to decoratively ‘visibly mend’ their clothing. Students loved taking part in this workshop, in which Andrea was also promoting student volunteering for the Biennial which takes place later this year across East Lancashire towns. This was a great opportunity for our students to network with other practising designers, exhibitors and volunteers, which will help them with their future employability.

A Level Textiles allows students to learn how to work through the design process, completing visual and topical research, examining the work of other artists and designers to inspire their own work, experimenting with a range of ideas before developing work to a final piece. As well as working with traditional textile media, students also experiment with mixed media, for example, stitching into recycled plastic bags for a fashion garment. Click below to find out more.
