This week our students from Runshaw’s Medical Society had an exciting and immersive experience at Lancaster University.
They attended Biomedicine and Medicine Masterclasses designed to provide hands-on insight into the world of medical science. The day began in the university’s state-of-the-art laboratories, where students explored the science behind snake bites, anti-venom production, and blood clotting. They also had the opportunity to create hydrogel wound dressings, gaining an understanding of how innovative materials are used in modern medicine.

In the afternoon, students visited the anatomy and clinical skills labs, where they focused on the respiratory system. Engaging in practical tasks, they conducted peak flow and respiratory tests on ward patients, simulating real-world medical assessments. This hands-on experience helped students appreciate the complexity of respiratory health and medical diagnostics. A huge thank you to Jamie Carbert and the team at Lancaster University for an inspiring and educational day!
