How can parents get involved with the College Careers Programme?
Parents and guardians are encouraged to engage with the Careers Programme in several supportive ways:
- Attend careers events and information sessions
Parents and guardians may be invited to attend specific careers events such as university and apprenticeship evenings, progression briefings or targeted information sessions where appropriate. These events are designed to help families understand routes and timelines. - Engage with careers communications
The College shares careers information, key dates and guidance for parents through its website and regular communications. This helps families stay informed about opportunities and support available. - Support reflection and decision making at home
Parents can play a valuable role by discussing careers ideas, encouraging research and helping young people reflect on experiences such as work experience, volunteering or part‑time employment. - Encourage participation in careers activities
Students are offered a wide range of careers activities throughout their time at college. Parents can encourage engagement with events, employer encounters and guidance opportunities as outlined in the Careers Programme. - Know how to access further support if needed
Where questions or concerns arise, parents can signpost their young person to the Careers Team or Student Services for impartial advice and guidance.
This approach supports partnership working while keeping the focus on student independence and informed decision making.
