Runshaw’s Sports department were delighted to welcome ex A Level PE student and Olympic Champion swimmer Anna Hopkin MBE into college.

Anna currently holds Olympic Gold at Tokyo 2020 in the British Mixed Medley Relay team, as well as being a 5-time European Gold medallist and British record holder in 100m Freestyle & 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay, and came in to share her experiences as an elite athlete with the students, who found out about how Olympic athletes are supported and funded, a typical training day/year, psychological preparation, sponsorship and dealing with the media. The session brought to life lots of the topics that are covered on Runshaw’s sports courses.

Anna left Runshaw in 2014 and in November 2022, HRH Princess Anne presented Anna with her MBE at Windsor Castle for ‘Services to Swimming’, following on from her being part of the Olympic Gold medal-winning 4 x 100m Mixed medley Relay team in Tokyo in 2021.

We wish Anna all the best in her preparation and training for qualification at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games!
