To extend their knowledge of francophone music, Year 1 French students attended a lecture by Cyrille Rollet from Lancaster University about “La musique engagée”.
After being given some historical and social background information, students were able to analyse some songs and understand how throughout the ages, French artists have been using music to express political and ideological ideas or criticise their various rulers.
This different slant on the topic that they have been studying this term will hopefully help them stand out in their oral examination next year. Thank you to Cyrille again for another interesting and enlightening presentation.
Studying a language at Runshaw is both challenging and satisfying and requires a high level of student commitment; however, the rewards are immense and will equip you with a range of transferable skills including communication, critical thinking, research skills and creativity.
