On Thursday 6th May a Hospitality, Catering and Tourism Employer Engagement Event was held in the Blue Room.
Due to the ending of lockdown and the hospitality industry finally reopening, local businesses are recruiting staff and apprenticeships.
The aim of the day was to build relationships with key local employers, enable our students to meet key business owners in the area and to have the experience of an interview. Ultimately the aim was for employers to recruit our students either on to an apprenticeship or into employment.
We had a fantastic turn out with business owners and representatives from:
Samlesbury Hall |
Bartle Hall |
Preston North End |
Fit food |
Rufford Arms |
The Retreat
|
Provenance |
The Sea View |
Diet to Go |
23 aspiring chefs, event planners and hoteliers had the opportunity to meet each employer and undergo an interview. For some students it was their first ever interview. The majority of students secured a trial day in at least one of the establishments.
Employer feedback was very positive:
‘I am really encouraged by the positivity and the eagerness of some of these candidates’ Samlesbury Hall
‘We would love to work with you more and offer work experience days and guest demonstrations’ Bartle Hall
‘Some candidates had not fully researched the company – this is key when attending an interview – one to work on with them’ Retreat
‘What a good event, it has surpassed my expectation, thank you’ Provenance
‘Some great candidates, we cannot wait to get them in for a trial day’ Sea View
We also asked the employers to state a couple of main attributes or skills that are lacking in the workforce today, their overall and common feedback was ‘integrity and honesty along with stamina and the attitude to work hard to the best of their ability’.
