A Level English Language
School Leavers (16-18)Are you fascinated by language? Do you want to know how it works, its many varieties, how it changes and what influences it? Then A Level English Language is the course for you. A Level English Language is a two year course which will give you the opportunity to develop your skills of linguistic analysis and explore language usage in a wide variety of situations and contexts. It offers a very different experience from GCSE English, as engaging with the real language of our daily lives – including its grammar – underpins all areas of the course. Students can expect a wide range of learning activities, with discussion and presentation central to the A Level experience. The course is assessed by two exams at the end of the second year, plus a non-examined assessment (coursework).

School Leavers (16-18)Why not study both Language and Literature as one A Level? Over the two-year A Level course, you will study a novel, a biography, a play, a selection of poetry and an anthology of non-fiction texts. You will also complete a non-examined assessment (coursework) where you will have some choice in the texts you study.

A Level English Literature is a two year course which will give you the opportunity to explore a range of texts including Shakespeare and study a range of novels, poetry and plays. Many students who enjoy and successfully complete this subject typically progress onto a range of degree courses including: English and related degrees.

Adults (19+)Our Functional Skills English course aims to build on your current skills and to focus on the skills needed to help you succeed in everyday work and social situations. The class covers the core skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening and are available at three levels (Entry Level 3, Level 1 & 2).

A Level Spanish
School Leavers (16-18)Bienvenida a España. A Level Spanish is a two year course which will give you the opportunity to study a range of topics, including ‘los valores tradicionales y modernos, el ciberespacio, la igualdad de los sexos, la influencia de los ídolos, la identidad regional en España, el patrimonio cultural, la inmigración, el racismo y la convivencia, los jóvenes y la política, monarquías y dictaduras y los movimientos populares’. In addition to this, you will study a Spanish-speaking film and novel.
