The latest Police Horizons event involved students meeting a Casebuilder Manager from the Criminal Justice Department of Lancashire Constabulary.
A Casebuilder is a role that acts as a buffer between the Crown Prosecution Service and Police Officers. The students heard about the variety of teams that make up the Criminal Justice Department, including Evidence Review Officers, Witness Care and Warrants teams. The day-to-day life of a Casebuilder includes identifying lines of enquiry, reviewing body worn footage, assessing sensitive material and identifying anything that could undermine the prosecution or support the defence. The students were also informed of the skills required to be successful in this career such as Resilience, Organisation and Confidence.
The many opportunities for career progression within this department were discussed as well as the benefits of being Police Staff and the entry requirements for the variety of roles. A number of students asked really inquisitive questions which were met with clear and insightful responses. Thank you to Ciara for coming in, we hope to see you again soon!
Our Police Horizons Academy provides knowledge on key legislation with the opportunity to gain practical skills via role plays covering lawful stop and searches and carrying out lawful arrests. Students also investigate case studies to give them some background knowledge into the history of policing. They will learn about the recruitment process and what will be expected, with the opportunity to practice the fitness test that is required to pass upon entry into the police. More information can be found in our Horizons booklet below.
