College can be financially challenging for some people. At Runshaw College we want all of our students to enjoy their college experience without this worry.

The college has a number of Bursary funds aimed at supporting learners with specific financial difficulties which may prevent them from taking part in learning. Eligibility for the funds will be based on household income and recent evidence of this must be submitted with your application. The bursary is intended to help students with their costs in participating in education and not beyond that.

Bursary applications can be made online through the PayMyStudent portal. Click the ‘apply now’ button below to start your Bursary application. If you or your family would like to discuss any financial concern, please contact us by email here.

Financial Support
  • When and how can I apply?

Once you have been offered a place, you can apply for a Bursary as soon as applications open.

Applications are made through the PayMyStudent Portal.

    • Register for an account using your student number, eg ABC12345678, enter your date of birth and create a password.
    • Once you have registered, you will be sent a link to activate your account via your choice of either text (SMS) message or email (don’t forget to check your junk folder in case the email appears in there). If you apply before enrolment, the email will be the one used on your application form. After enrolment, this will go to your college email address.
    • Click the link to take you back to the login page, and login using your details and the password you created.
    • Follow the link to the Application Form where you will be asked to provide details about your personal circumstances and the household you live in. Your responses will indicate which evidence will be required to support your application. If you have access to a scanner, a smart phone or other digital camera, you can take copies of the required evidence and then upload them. Please note, your application will not be assessed without income/benefit evidence.
    • Enter your bank account details.
    • Review your answers on the final page, then read the declaration at the bottom of the page. Type your name in the signature box and click Submit Application.
    • You will receive an automatic confirmation email.
    • After you have submitted your application you will still be able to make any necessary changes until it has been approved by Student Services. Once your application has been assessed, you will receive an email notification.
  • What is meant by Household Income?

This is all income coming into the household, including earnings from employment or self-employment (where applicable) and benefits.

  • What evidence is needed?

After answering the questions in the application, you will be told which documents are needed. Please ensure that you upload the correct documents. Failure to do this will delay your application being assessed.

Additionally, if you are applying for help with childcare costs you will need to provide a copy of your child’s/children’s birth certificates.

  • What is the income threshold?

As a guide, if you are in receipt of certain benefits or your gross household income is £30,000 or less then you will receive support. However, we will also take into account the number of dependent children in your household.

  • Is the form difficult to complete?

We have made the form as straightforward as possible but if you are unsure of anything please do not hesitate to contact funding@runshaw.ac.uk. Remember that we want you to apply and will help you as much as we can.

  • When will I find out if my Bursary application has been successful?

We will aim to let you know if your application has been approved within 10 working days of receiving your application (and all the required evidence) – however during busy periods, for example, at the start of the academic year, this may take a little longer. If the application is approved, the approval date will always be backdated to the date that we received your application and required evidence.  The confirmation email will go to the student’s email address (or college email after enrolment).

  • Will the Bursary pay for the Travel Pass?

If your Bursary application has been successful, the cost of the travel pass will be covered. You do still need to apply for a travel pass.

  • Will I get help with Childcare?

Yes, if you meet the above criteria then you will get a contribution towards your registered childcare costs on your timetabled college day(s).

  • Do I need to use my Childcare vouchers?

Yes, wherever possible you will be expected to use these on your timetabled college day(s).

  • How is payment made?

Transport payments are made into your bank account at the start of each term. Childcare payments are paid monthly direct to your childcare provider.

  • Will my course affect my benefits?

If you are enrolled on a course of further education, any money you receive towards your college costs, childcare etc. will not be taken into account by benefit departments.  However, you are advised to check with your relevant benefit department to make sure the course you want to do will not affect your entitlement to benefits.
