Congratulations to Runshaw student Luke Batty who has broken the British para record for the 400m Individual Medley.
Luke competed at the ‘Wigan BEST Future Stars meet’ on Sunday where he finished the race with a time of 5:26, shaving 10 seconds off the previous record which had stood for 10 years. He hopes to compete with Team GB at the Paris 2024 Paralympic games.
Luke currently trains with the Bolton Metro Swimming Squad, whose coach Ric Howard said:
“Luke trains up to nine times a week and deserves all the success he gets as he works hard in training and is focused on his sport and achieving great things in the future.
He is about to compete in another national event in December and has high hopes of going to future Paralympic Games, and will be working hard going into Paris 2024 and beyond.
The club and myself as his coach are always proud of his achievements but this one seems like a real marker for much bigger things to come in his career.”
Well done Luke!
Luke currently studies L3 Sport & Exercise Science.
