This week Runshaw’s Level 3 Graphic Design students visited Absolute Agency, a design agency based in Horwich.
The creative director delivered a talk on agency life and shared their design process and how they approach design projects with bold ideas.
Our students learned that as well as having design skills, other skills such as passion, proactivity, and confidence enhance their employability and received tips on how to stand out in the competitive industry.
They learned that the team at Absolute are problem solvers, each with their own specialist skills, who love to collaborate, pull apart problems, explore different approaches and spark ideas off each other. The agency had a unique culture, their ethos combines Art, Commerce, and Fun to grow ideas that lead to the creation of bold design work.
The students heard from their newest member of the team Leah who joined Absolute four months ago, straight after completing her course at a college. Leah shared what she had learned, and her latest design work for Manchester City Football Club. Leah described the buzz that she felt seeing her own design work ‘live’ in the Manchester City FC store – which is really inspiring for students to hear.
Simon also shared some of the design work for large clients such as Redrow Homes, Carrs Pasties, and Manchester City FC, breaking down the design process from the initial investigation stage to the final stage of engagement. After seeing the new advertising campaign for Carrs Pasties, we even got to taste their products ourselves and enjoyed lunch whilst chatting with the Absolute creative team.
This was a really insightful day and upon leaving the Agency students commented working in the industry was “even more fun than I imagined!”
