Second Year English Combined students Charlotte Fisher, Barna Hathaway, Eoin Malone and Joe Warby were all shortlisted last month in the Armistice 100 Poetry Competition, judged by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy and Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry recipient Imtiaz Dharker.

The competition, run by Lincoln University, was launched to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One, and gave prizes in various age categories.  There were over 500 entries to the competition from all across the country.

All four students were invited to the prize-giving ceremony and all were published in the prizewinners’ anthology produced by the university.

Eoin, who attended the ceremony, and whose poem was not only shortlisted but one of the ten Highly Commended poems, said, “Writing is a quiet hobby so to see something concrete come from it is hugely uplifting.  Meeting other young people who shared my passion was also a very exciting experience.”
