You will develop a knowledge and understanding of the countries where your chosen language is spoken, and a high level of proficiency in the key foreign language skills of speaking, listening, reading, writing and translating – highly prized by employers in our increasingly globalised world. You will also develop all the valuable generic skills for success in the worlds of university and work, making you a confident, cultured and highly employable thinker and communicator – and in more than one language!

    Our Functional Skills English course aims to build on your current skills and to focus on the skills needed to help you succeed in everyday work and social situations.     Adults (19+)

    Our Functional Skills courses focus on the skills needed in everyday work and social situations. They help develop practical maths skills and allow you to apply these to a range of realistic everyday situations. Whether you need to learn how to calculate percentages for work or balance your personal finances, Functional Skills Maths courses will focus on practical maths skills used in everyday life.

    Do you want to explore sophisticated mathematical ideas and concepts? Do you want to enhance and develop your problem solving skills? Do you want to be thoroughly prepared for any maths related degree programme? A Level Further Mathematics is a two year course which will give you the opportunity to study Pure Mathematics, Mechanics, Statistics and Decision Mathematics which will enhance your skills and enable you to develop as an independent learner. Students who enjoy and successfully complete this subject typically progress onto a range of degree courses at university including Physics, Engineering, Computer Science and Economics.

  • Geography A Level

    School Leavers (16-18)

    You’ve located an engaging, diverse and topical subject. Students will have the opportunity to take part in local field trips to urban and coastal environments to apply their learning in the real world. We also offer trips further afield, with previous trips to London, Italy and Iceland. Students are given the opportunity to sample life as a Geography undergraduate and extend their knowledge with guest speakers from Liverpool University, as well as attend lectures delivered by the Geographical Association in Manchester. Talks are also arranged from environmental groups such as Dynamic Dunescapes, which help students apply their geographical understanding to real life situations.

    Volcanoes erupt, Earth’s plates shift, welcome to the only course at Runshaw which is 4 billion years in the making. Geology at Runshaw College is an exciting and vibrant subject with appeal to Science-based and Physical Geography students. It is a diverse and interesting subject with a mixture of applied, practical and theoretical work, delving into the structure, evolution and dynamics of the Earth. We examine the vastness of geological time and the record of life on Earth, together with the impact Geology has on our own lives through the exploitation of its mineral and energy resources.
