A Level Film Studies
School Leavers (16-18)Lights, camera, action! A Level Film Studies is a course dedicated to the study of how meaning is created in film. We study mainstream, Hollywood films, as well as a broad range of British, foreign and experimental f ilms. Our approach is similar to English Literature – we focus on developing a critical understanding of film from a number of different perspectives: genre, narrative, film language and institution.

A Level Fine Art
School Leavers (16-18)Work with a range of mixed media, predominantly exploring painting, drawing, textural and image-based collage, and print making. A Level Fine Art is a traditional and long standing A Level that underpins all art specialisms. Students will be taught core skills such as drawing, critical art history analysis and idea development that will give them the foundation to progress into many different areas within the creative sector. Many students combine academic ‘facilitating’ subjects with A Level Fine Art if they have a strong creative ability. This gives students the opportunity to stand out from the crowd, to demonstrate their creative and practical ability and problem solving skills. It also has different deadlines and structure to exam driven A Levels which can often balance well in the academic year.

You will develop a knowledge and understanding of the countries where your chosen language is spoken, and a high level of proficiency in the key foreign language skills of speaking, listening, reading, writing and translating – highly prized by employers in our increasingly globalised world. A Level Geography
School Leavers (16-18)You’ve located an engaging, diverse and topical subject. Students will have the opportunity to take part in local field trips to urban and coastal environments to apply their learning in the real world. We also offer trips further afield, with previous trips to London, Italy and Iceland. Students are given the opportunity to sample life as a Geography undergraduate and extend their knowledge with guest speakers from Liverpool University, as well as attend lectures delivered by the Geographical Association in Manchester. Talks are also arranged from environmental groups such as Dynamic Dunescapes, which help students apply their geographical understanding to real life situations.

Geology at Runshaw College is an exciting and vibrant subject with appeal to Science-based and Physical Geography students. It is a diverse and interesting subject with a mixture of applied, practical and theoretical work, delving into the structure, evolution and dynamics of the Earth. We examine the vastness of geological time and the record of life on Earth, together with the impact Geology has on our own lives through the exploitation of its mineral and energy resources.

Music Technology
School Leavers (16-18)Gain skills and a qualification in creating high quality audio recording, with use of our Music Studio. This course is specifically designed to give you an excellent opportunity to develop skills and gain a qualification in producing high quality audio. Skills are developed from both the Musical and Engineering perspective. These are delivered with industry expectations and progression at the core of the curriculum. This is a BTEC qualification equivalent to 1.5 A Levels. It is studied as part of the A Level Programme alongside 2 or 3 other subjects and carries the same UCAS points as 1.5 A Levels!
