Level 3 Creative Media Production students spent three days down in London, as they explored the capital and developed their film and TV production skills, through a series of workshops.
Our students visited the cinema museum, taking in memorabilia and props from early days of cinema through to the 1950s, and were treated to a fascinating talk about development of film. This was followed by a fantastic cinematography workshop, where they were able to use BlackMagic Cinema 6K cameras, interchangeable lenses and industry standard lighting and sound equipment. This really helped the students understand how important technology is when working in Film and TV production, especially the ways in which lenses can alter viewing perspectives.
The trip included a wonderful tour around the Sky TV Studio, and our students were able to see Sky News and Sky Sports News being aired live, then took part in a practical workshop creating a short trailer using Sky’s Studios. These workshops have allowed students to see how important technology is in the industry, and allowed staff to see how we can further enhance our STEM provision in the coming academic years. A fantastic few days down in London, the trip ended with a viewing of Inside Out 2, which was a lovely way to round up a brilliant academic year on Vocational Media Production.
