This week we were thrilled that Amanda Roocroft, international Opera star, and one of our former students, came back to college for a visit.
As part of our celebrations, we’ve been privileged to show our alumni around campus this year, and it was lovely to show Amanda around our theatre which is named after her, a place where Amanda’s Runshaw story began. Hear more from Amanda in the video below.
Amanda’s return to college
Our Principal Clare Russell welcomed Amanda back to Runshaw, before Tim Cahill, one of our Directors and also a former Runshaw student, guided Amanda around campus including our Eskdale building – home to our School of Performing Arts, followed by a visit to the Amanda Roocroft Theatre. Amanda has secured an international reputation as one of Britain’s most exciting singers in opera, concert, and in recital. In concert she has appeared with leading orchestras throughout Europe and North America with conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Zubin Mehta, Mariss Jansons, Ivor Bolton, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Daniele Gatti, Sir Neville Marriner, Sir Andrew Davis, Sir Charles Mackerras, Valery Gergiev and Bernard Haitink. Amanda won the 2007 Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera for her performance as Jenufa with the English National Opera. In 2023, Preston Opera announced Amanda as their new President.
A huge thank you to Amanda for returning to college, we really enjoyed having you back!
The 50th Birthday of Runshaw College is not only a testament to our history and legacy but also a reflection of the incredible journey our alumni have been a part of. We invite you to play a crucial role in making this celebration unforgettable. Find out more by clicking below.
