Today the second semester unit Police Powers and the Law has commenced for our Year 1 Public Services students.
And what better way to start the unit than having Superintendent Gary Crowe from Lancashire Police teach an insightful session on Stop & Search.
The session covered Section 1 of PACE, lawful stop & search of a person or vehicle, reasonable grounds, as well as officer and public safety while carrying out a stop & search. Gary’s session and expertise will be beneficial towards the students’ first assessment for the unit which is coming up at the end of February. Thank you Gary for such an interesting session!
Our Police Horizons Academy provides knowledge on key legislation with the opportunity to gain practical skills via role plays covering lawful stop and searches and carrying out lawful arrests. Students also investigate case studies to give them some background knowledge into the history of policing. They will learn about the recruitment process and what will be expected, with the opportunity to practice the fitness test that is required to pass upon entry into the police. More information can be found in our Horizons booklet below.
