On behalf of the Harvard Club of the UK, one of our first year Scholars has been presented with this year’s Harvard Prize Book: Talk: The Science of Conversation and the Art of Being Ourselves by Alison Wood Brooks.
The book was awarded to ‘an outstanding student in the penultimate year, academically excellent, with exceptional personal qualities, who makes a significant contribution to school or community’. Grace fulfils all these things, and more. She has fully engaged with the Scholars Programme here at Runshaw College, engaged in an extensive range of extra-curricular opportunities to further her prospects of studying Law at a prestigious university; such opportunities have included attending two selective Law study days at Oxford University and shadowing legal barristers in Manchester.

Grace has plans over the summer to embark on shadowing experiences with legal professionals at Kirton McConkie in the USA, achieved through sheer resilience on her part. Grace also plans to engage in Oxbridge essay contests throughout the summer, ensuring her literacy skills and academic rigour is nurtured even during times of rest!
In September, Grace is also planning to embark on a shadowing experience with a Harvard law student, attending lectures and engaging in campus activities for a week. Well done Grace!
Our year one Scholars cohort has just returned from a trip to the University of Oxford Open Day. The students enjoyed exploring Oxford, the Bodleian library, and the various Colleges and now feel more fully informed about their plans for their futures.
