This term our Public Services students went on a trip to Edge Hill University.

115 students arrived at Edge Hill for the day which first involved a guided tour of the beautiful Edge Hill campus. The greenery, historic architecture and modern facilities made a strong first impression, with visits to the main academic buildings, the extensive library, and the student union, all of which highlighted the university’s commitment to providing a conducive learning environment. The state-of-the-art Psychology research building and the Criminology crime house were particularly impressive.

One of the first academic sessions was a visit to the Psychology department, where students participated in interactive workshops which focused on Eye Witness Testimony, evidence gathering and the impact of wrongful convictions. The session provided a clear understanding of how theoretical concepts delivered within the current curriculum are applied in real-world scenarios, sparking curiosity and interest among the students. The students took part in a memory contamination task which highlighted the importance of accurate eye witnesses and the difficulties getting a conviction based off an eye witness report.

Throughout the day, our students had multiple opportunities to interact with current Edge Hill student ambassadors. They shared their experiences, provided insights into the courses, and answered questions about student life. These interactions were invaluable as they gave our students an accurate and candid perspective on the benefits of studying at Edge Hill.

The trip to Edge Hill University not only showcased the university’s robust academic programmes in Psychology, Criminology and Law, but also highlighted the supportive and vibrant community that students are a part of. The combination of informative sessions, hands-on activities, and personal interactions with faculty and students made for an unforgettable experience. Many of our students left the campus with a clearer vision of their future both academic and career based, and a strong interest in becoming part of the Edge Hill community. Overall, this visit was a resounding success! Thank you to the Edge Hill Liaison team for welcoming us!
