The Ethics Cup is a national philosophical presenting and discussion competition. Our students qualified for the event having won their Manchester regional competition in January. The final is a very prestigious event with some of the highest-ranking schools in the country competing, and judged by academics and influential people at the university and beyond. The team had spent months preparing their thoughts on the competition case studies. Team Runshaw was one of only a few comprehensive institutions to qualify and one of only a few to make the finals two years in a row!
This year the matches involved the teams preparing for a three-minute presentation on an unseen question on an ethical case study – needless to say an extremely demanding task! Our students performed impressively well, beating the eventual champions Reading School, but unfortunately losing their other matches by narrow margins. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and honed their skills of presenting, critical thinking and teamwork. Team Runshaw also enjoyed seeing the university and spent some time in the town of St Andrews. Every member of the team played and vital role and should be very proud of their achievements, well done everyone!
