This week, eight of our Philosophy and RS students took part in the Manchester Regional Match of the Ethics Cup for the second year running, and were victorious!
The Ethics Cup is a national philosophical presenting and discussion competition judged by academics at universities across the country. Whilst last year our students went in as underdogs with no expectations, this year they went in as reigning regional champions. The competition was even tougher this year as teams were clearly very well prepared. Despite this our team excelled throughout the competition, coming top in the group stages after winning both group matches. Our students then won the vote of every judge but one in both the semi-finals and finals to score a convincing victory in both matches, defeating Didsbury High school in a repeat performance from last year, and then Manchester Grammar School in the final.

To win this competition once is an achievement, but to defend their crown is exceptional, considering the talent of students from some of the most prestigious local schools and colleges. Every member of the team played a vital role which is testament to their excellent preparation, exceptional teamwork and philosophical brilliance. Whilst our second year students are now bowing out to focus on their final exams, it’s onwards to the national final for our first year students against St Andrews, well done everyone!
