We’re delighted to share that our Facilities & Finance team has been recognised at this year’s Sixth Form Colleges Association Awards Dinner, taking home an award in the Climate Action Award category.

The team was awarded the runners up trophy for their Green Thread initiative, which is a bold and comprehensive sustainability programme designed to incorporate sustainability responsibility into every aspect of our campus operations. In recent years, the initiative has delivered a 14.1% reduction in carbon emissions. Highlights of the initiative include:

  • Campus-wide energy efficiency: Smart building systems, improved insulation, and air-source heat pumps in new builds.
  • Sustainable infrastructure: Solar panels, LED lighting, EV charging points, and plumbed-in water stations.
  • Waste and resource management: Composting, and stopping the sale of single use plastics in all Runshaw Dining outlets.
  • Biodiversity and wellbeing: Tree planting, wildflower meadows, wildlife cameras, and secure cycling facilities.
  • Community and culture: The creation of sustainability committees, regular litter picks.
  • Sustainable procurement: Embedding green practices into contractor and supplier activities, including partnerships with IT recyclers who plant trees based on equipment recycled.
  • Space optimisation: Standardising accommodation to reduce the need for new furniture and refurbishments.

This recognition reflects the team’s dedication to sustainability and their role in driving us toward our Net-Zero goals. Congratulations to everyone involved!
