The winners of the 2020 Runshaw College Golden Roses Awards were proudly announced this week by Marie Fairhurst, Assistant Principal at Runshaw College. This student led award, organised by the University of Central Lancashire’s Student Union, gives our Higher Education students the chance to recognise how Runshaw staff go above and beyond in teaching and supporting students.
Runshaw took three coveted awards this year:
Lecturer of the Year was Nasrullah Anwar, Social Sciences. This award is for a significant contribution to overall student academic experience. A delighted Nasrullah said “Each year I am excited to meet my new students, wondering what I’ll learn from them. Sometimes you meet students that make teaching feel like a privilege. They make me look forward to coming into work”.
Student Support of the Year was Mohammed Saeed, one of our Pastoral Mentors. This award is voted for by students looking at staff who go above and beyond to offer a fantastic student support experience. On hearing about his award Mohammed praised his students, saying, “I just wanted to say a big thank you to all my students for nominating me and for being such amazing students. I miss seeing my tutor groups whilst we are all on lockdown, I feel humbled to have received this Golden Roses award as all our teaching and support staff work equally hard in supporting our students”.
Course Team of the Year went to Public Services. This award recognises the team that has made a significant positive contribution to the student academic experience. A thrilled Head of Public Services, Andy Howarth said “It is fantastic news that our team from Community and Social Care: Daniel Holland, Nasrullah Anwar and Bethany Frear have been awarded the Golden Roses Team Award. Our team always go above and beyond to ensure our students receive outstanding teaching and support during their time with us.”
A big thank you and congratulations goes to UCLan’s Student Union and both the award winners and everyone shortlisted, you all play a huge part in the fantastic experience our students receive and it is lovely to see this recognised as part of these awards!
