Level 3 Professional Performance Programme – Dance
This is a full-time course for students who want to train as Dancers and so most of your classes will focus on different styles of dance. Also, when you audition for dance schools such as Bird or Laine, you are generally asked to perform a song or drama monologue. For this reason, you will also have some classes in Singing and Acting, although the majority of your course will focus on dance. There may be the opportunity to take one of the Performing Arts A Levels alongside this course.

- Overview
Over the two years of the course, you will train in a range of different dance styles. There will be regular classes in Ballet as this is the basis for most dance technique. Along with this, you will explore different approaches to Contemporary Dance along with other classes in Jazz, Tap and Commercial. In the Urban Dance sessions, you will be introduced to Street and Hip-Hop styles.
In your first year, you will also work in small groups when you are choreographed by the second year students for their Choreography project, and in the second year, you will be the one in charge of choreographing others. Your major production on the Dance pathway will be the PPP Dance show that takes place in May. You will be responsible for choreographing dances in a number of styles: contemporary, jazz, commercial, and so on. Some of the dances will be choreographed by your tutors, some by visiting professionals, and some by the students themselves. There will be a number of performances, evening shows for the public, and matinees for local high schools.
- Entry Requirements
For our Level 3 Advanced Vocational courses our entry requirements are a minimum of 5x GCSEs at Grade 4, Maths or English Language/Literature at Grade 4 and Grade 3 in the other subjects.
Please note, some courses and subjects will have additional specific entry requirements or require DBS clearance to undertake placements. Information about this can be found in our course leaflet (available to download above), the Apply Portal, and on your offer letter which you will receive after your interview.
In order to maintain the high quality of the Professional Performance Programme, applicants must also pass an audition that usually takes place in early July. This ensures that all the students on the PPP have the necessary level of skill and commitment to succeed. Applicants who do not meet the standard for the Level 3 qualification may be offered a place on the PPP: Foundation – a one-year course designed to develop students’ skills to a level where they will then be able to progress onto the PPP Level 3.
- How will I be assessed?
You will take part in a number of projects over the two years. Most assessments last for 6-8 weeks and consist of skills classes where you are taught relevant techniques and then development sessions where you apply those techniques and then perform in front of a live audience. You will also complete project books and evaluations for some of the practical work that you have done on the course. All of these will take the form of coursework as there are no written exams. On completion of the course, you will gain an Extended Diploma from the University of the Arts London.
- Progression Pathway
A high proportion of our students move on to prestigious institutions. In 2016, 75% of the students who applied gained places at accredited dance and drama schools; no other college in the North West can match these statistics.

- Royal Central School of Speech and Drama
