A Level Philosophy

A simple question: Is Philosophy at Runshaw worth studying? The answer is yes. Here's why. Philosophy at Runshaw challenges fundamental assumptions about ourselves and how we relate to the world around us, students always leave the classroom with even more questions than they came in with. • Overview

There are four branches of study here at Runshaw on the Philosophy course:

    • Epistemology
    • Philosophy of Religion
    • Philosophy of Mind
    • Moral Philosophy

By engaging with the works of past and present philosophers, students consider questions such as: How are we related to the world around us? What is knowledge, and is it possible? Can we make sense of the idea of God? Are there any convincing arguments for God’s existence? What is consciousness and can we explain how it is possible? Are there any absolute moral truths about what is right and wrong? Throughout the course, the emphasis is on being able to understand the logical structure of arguments and critically discuss these arguments.
