We are pleased to celebrate success in the Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad!
Eleven of our Year 2 A Level Chemists recently took part in the Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad where they completed an extremely challenging written paper. This paper requires them to apply their understanding of Chemistry to real-world situations and concepts, and challenges their problem solving skills to their limits.
Our students did amazingly well, achieving our best ever results: five gold awards (top 8% nationwide) and six silver awards (top 25% nationwide). Congratulations to all our students on your hard-earned success!

We are also proud to share that 30 of our Year 2 A Level Chemistry students have been awarded certificates in recognition of their support mentoring our Year 1 students throughout their first year. This has helped our Year 2 students to develop their problem solving and communication skills and has improved their depth of knowledge and application of content.
The impact this has had on our Year 1 students has been outstanding: 50% of the students mentored improved their grades including 20% who improved by two or three grades across the year. A huge thank you to our students for all your hard work throughout this year!

Chemistry students at Runshaw are encouraged to challenge themselves at every opportunity. They are given the chance to take part in the Cambridge University Chemistry challenge and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Olympiad competitions. There are also chances to be part of a team that participates in the RSC practical Chemistry competition. Find out more below.
