This week, students and staff have continued to raise awareness of T Levels through a series of college events, strengthening collaboration between education and industry.
The week started with our T Level Engineering and Business Management students enjoying a fantastic day with guest speakers from NIS and Eric Wright Group. Catherine Ashcroft and Sophie Rowe led an engaging morning session focused on CV writing, letters of application, and completing application forms. Later in the day, five additional members of staff from a range of roles joined us to conduct mock interviews, giving students valuable real-world experience. Our students were outstanding – fully engaged, professional, and even dressed the part! A huge thank you to the Eric Wright Group for supporting our learners and helping them develop their employability skills and prepare them for their CORE exams in June. Our Engineering students ended the day with a huge T Level football match on our 3G pitch.

Also this week, our T Level Engineering students have taken part in the Concrete Cube and Slump Testing, as well as a Plant Simulator Tournament and a series of guest speaker talks with both our partner employers and Runshaw College Alumni students Daniel, Harrison and Sam – and a big congratulations to former student Joe Eccles from BCAE Architects, who scooped the Gatsby T Level Student of the Year Award for the region!

Our T Level Design and Level 2 Engineering students also visited Blackpool Pleasure Beach to learn about the mechanics of rollercoasters and how they work – of course, having the opportunity to spend the day on the rides too! Our students had a great time, and were also taught about the design process, development and history of the resort as well as how the weather plays a big part in how well a rollercoaster works.

At Runshaw we have developed a close working relationship with our local NHS trust, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, who we work in partnership with to offer our T Level Health students placements at their Preston and Chorley hospitals. This provides our students with invaluable experience of the roles and responsibilities of the adult nursing profession. Yvette is our Course Leader for T Level Health and has over 22 years of clinical experience in the NHS.

Yvette added, “I have had the privilege of working across a wide range of healthcare settings, developing a deep understanding of patient care and professional practice. Being dually qualified as both a Registered General Nurse and Registered Midwife, now as a Clinical Tutor, I am passionate about sharing this knowledge and experience with the next generation of healthcare professionals. It brings me immense joy and pride to watch learners grow in confidence, develop their clinical skills, and step into their roles with compassion and competence. Supporting their journey from theory to practice is not just a responsibility, it is incredibly rewarding”.

Thank you to our wonderful guest speakers, partner employers and alumni students for visiting us, and making T Levels Week 2025 a roaring success.
